Humanity and being truly human.

Join hands with me to serve humanity. This is my latest humanitarian movement to spread love, compassion and peace among the society. This is merely an attempt to be truly human.

Be Truly Human: Compassion for all- This is a non-violence movement mainly to speak up for animal rights and stand against any kind of animal abuse, by promoting vegetarianism and spreading compassion to all living beings.

The right to lead a life free of fear is a fundamental right of all living beings. But this fundamental right is being brutally violated by humans in animal testing, meat and dairy industry, circus, zoos, aquariums, and sports.

We are against of any kind of animal testing may it be for cosmetics, medical or any product. We consider animal testing, meat and dairy industry, circus, zoos, aquariums, and sports as brutal and clearly violating animal rights.

Making the general public aware of the suffering, miserable lonely lives animals lead because of the selfishness of humans will be done by exposing the truth behind slaughter houses, dairy farms, testing labs, circuses and zoos.

We shall reach our helping hand to orphaned animals and do our best to help them.

In achieving our goals, we need the support of the general public. This is not something we can do alone, so we hope to get the general public involved in this journey along with us. Join us through our Facebook page, ‘Be Truly Human: Compassion for all’ and by practicing love, compassion and care for all living beings and raising your voice against animal right violations.

We invite you to join hands with us, and Be Truly Human and spread Compassion for all.

My first book released by Godage International Publishers, titled “Origin and Evolution of the Domestic Dog” discusses the long time process of the domestication of the Domestic Dog.

My first book released by Godage International Publishers, titled “Origin and Evolution of the Domestic Dog” discusses the long time process of the domestication of the Domestic Dog.

The Domestic Dog, Scientifically called as the Canis lupus familiaris, is one of the oldest animals to be domesticated. There are arguments between scholars about the oldest animal domesticated and some believe it was the Cow, while others believe it was the Dog. This will remain a controversy in the world of Archaeology and Natural Sciences until we gather clear evidences to conclude for sure.

The aim of this study is to research the origin and evolution of the Domestic Dog. The process of Domestication, Animal Domestication, and the domestication of the Canis lupus familiaris and the human involvement are discussed in this article. Information about the Family tree, Ancestral species of the modern domestic dog, living members of the Canine Family such as the Grey/Timber wolf, Jackal, Coyote, Dingo, New Guinea’s Singing Dog, as well as extinct members of the Canine Family such as the Miacid, Cynodictus and Tomactus are presented here in this article.  In which ways the members of the Canine family have being depicted in ancient cultures and believes are another aspect we have researched on.

The modern Domestic Dog is scientifically referred as Canis lupus familiaris.

The companionship between dog and man dates back to the period when man was living his life as a hunter. In fact, they were the ancestors of the Modern Domestic Dog who befriended the pre historic man for the first time. The Grey Wolf or the Timber Wolf and scientifically referred as the Canis Lupus. Rapid changes occurred during this time in human lives. They were ending their lives as hunter-gatherers and beginning a new way of life style. It was the dawn of civilization, the beginning of stable human settlements.  During this time, wild dogs and wolves were attracted towards human settlements in search of warmth and food more than the earlier times.

The modern Dog is a result of the continuous process of domestication of the Wolf. The Grey Wolf or the Timber Wolf is the largest wild member of the Canidae family and a survivor of the Canidae family who exists from the glaciered period until now. As many scholars/scientists believe, Gray/Timber Wolf is the ancestor of the Modern Dog and many of the modern species of the Dog family. Recently the modern Dog was categorized as a domesticated subspecies of the Grey/timber Wolf. The domestication of wolves original occurred during the late Pleistocene, 13500 years ago. The beginning of the process was not a intended or planned. It was spontaneous and impulsive. This may have been an outcome of some other human or natural performances. As scholars believe, the begging was when garbage used to scatter around pre historic human settlements and wolves that were natural scavengers, were attracted towards them. (One significant reason for wolves to be the first species to be domesticated was that they were natural scavengers. They depend on garbage and left over food. This has given wolves/ dogs and other members of the dog family to survive throughout the hardest situations of history. ) According to DNA evidence it is clear that the ancestral wolf of the modern dog were separated from the other wild wolves nearly about 100000 years ago. The modern dog was evolved from those wolves nearly 15000 years ago. According to these dating, and if they are accurate, dog is the first ever species t be domesticated by man. There are archaeological evidences of the domestication of the dog dating back to 12000-10000 BC. Very clear evidences date back to 7000 BC.

Birth of a new species…

Many causes strained to develop a new sub species, which was a result of the long-term domestication process. Some considerable causes are the attraction of wolves towards human settlements in search of garbage and leftover food, warmth. Our ancestors who were then hunter-gathers used to bring home and nurture orphaned wolf cubs whom they met in the forest. They were perfect hunting companions, guards, and helpers to transport heavy loads.  As wolves were facing such situations, physical and behavioral changes appeared in later generations of wolves. Because of this, a new generation of wolves with changes required by human was born as a sub species of the wolf. These mutant creatures of wolves are what we today call as the Domestic DOG. As researches believe the Dog is a completely Domesticated species.

Because of these changes many dog breeds were evolved too. There are hundreds of such various breeds in the world. These dogs were selectively bred to meet different needs of man. Among such breeds, the Saluki is considered as the most ancient dog breed in the world.  Some other ancient dog breeds are Ibizian Hound, Grey Hound, Pharaoh hound, and Samoyed.

At present Dogs are used to multi-tasks apart from Hunters, Guards and Loving pets. They are used to help shepherds, as sledge dogs in snow covered areas, to rescue people during disasters and catastrophic situations, as messengers, to track down criminals and drugs and weapons, helpers of the disables are to name a few. Apart from all these, dogs have always been man’s best friend since the last glacial period until now and will remain the same for thousands of years to come.

Dogs of Sri Lanka.

In ancient Sinhalese folklore, Jackal plays a prominent role. Till now there are no solid and clear evidence to state that wolves existed in Sri Lanka. The Jackal who exists in Sri Lanka is referred as the Golden Jackal.  There are many Jackal species in the world but the Golden Jackal is the only Jackal species can be found in Sri Lanka. Scientifically the Golden Jackal is referred as the Canis aureus. According to Genetic research this species of Jackal (Golden Jackal- Canis aureus) does not show close relation to the rest of other Jackal species.  Researchers include the Canis aureus to the wolf group as they close relation to the wolf group. The other species belongs to the wolf group is, Grey/Timber wolf, Domestic Dog and Coyote.

My view on ‘Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat TV serial on Colors TV’

This is to share about my latest addiction on TV. Usually I am not a person who is glued to the TV, particularly these soap operas.

It was one night I was changing from one channel to the other with super boredom, as suddenly I was struck with an amazing performance by the veteran actor Manoj Joshi. I actually stopped to see him because he was a familiar face to us. As I followed the play I came to know he was portraying Chanakya’s character. Being a scholar and lover of archaeology and history, I was interested to watch the play because it was Chanakya. It was the TV serial Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat on Colors TV.

The date was 6th February 2015. I was attracted to the performance by Manoj Joshi as Chanakya and the wonderful sets and powerful dialogues. I continued to watch it from then. I was eagerly waiting to see who would portrait the much loved emperor by all Sinhalese Buddhists, and Buddhists all over the world and in my opinion world’s greatest ruler, Ashoka the great. Then came a young boy whose voice and facial expressions and body language startled me. That moment as I was watching the 6th episode that too from the middle, I was little confused with the story but the wonderfully written and directed play caught my attention. That night, I watched all 5 episodes till 3 am despite the fact that I had to wake up at 6 am and conduct a lecture at 9am.

The 3rd episode where they introduced the role of Ashoka was the most awestruck episode till date. It was the young actor’s amazingly strong voice and body language struck me in admiration. The way he pronounced certain words stressing its meaning, his hand movements and stunts were extremely mind blowing. I couldn’t stop myself from watching the 3rd episode again and again! In curiosity I searched who was the super talented young actor as Ashoka and found it was Siddharth Nigam. I must say Siddharth Nigam is the perfect match for play young Ashoka. His facial expressions, voice and amazing personality has captured hundreds of hearts and I am pretty sure Siddharth’s performance makes us love and respect emperor Ashoka more and more.

Certainly we know a lot about emperor Ashoka but that is through historical records and most of them are real facts. Indeed this drama is not a historical record or documentary about Ashoka but a fascinating tale about him. There is no need to look at the drama as a scholar or historian, it is interesting to see a play based on Ashoka’s life, specially his childhood mischiefs, his bond with his mother queen Dharma, his struggles and challenges and the powerful role of Chanakya in making the Mauryan emperor.

How they have portrayed queen Dharma is simply beautiful. Her sacrifices, struggles and love for her son is capable of touching our hearts. The actor playing her role is perfect. Queen Dharma’s innocence and piousness is perfectly shown through Pallavi Subash’s performance. The actor playing the role of Samrat Bidusara is flawless for the character and what a personality for an emperor! I must mention the entire cast is extremely talented and perfect for the characters. Well, it is not possible to stop talking about Siddharth Nigam’s performance as Ashoka and I can write pages admiring his talent.

One more powerful feature of the drama is the powerful dialogues and the carefully selected language. The language used here is very much close to Sinhala language and most of the time I do not need subtitles to understand it.

The music… it will be unfair if I do not mention about the music of the play. The amazing tunes, music and the songs are truly wonderful. Music and the title song is one strong reason the play has captured the hearts of the viewers. I could not stop from downloading the title song and making it my ring tone!

Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat TV serial on Colors TV is one of the best plays on TV, which is beautifully written and directed with an amazingly talented cast. It is a tribute to emperor Ashoka. Siddharth Nigam, Manoj Joshi, Pallavi Subash and Sameer Dharmadhikari has surely captured our hearts and will live there forever. All the best!

The best thing about being a writer

Hello there! It’s been a while and good to return to my blog.

It was in May 2013 that my first book published and it will be two years in May 2015. Since then I have been in the book world and as a writer, I am eight books old. Not bad in less than two years!

There are so many good things about being a writer. The best thing about being a writer is that you can create your own world, which sometimes may not really exist. You can create characters you dream of, you can explore and create adventures. The best part is, you can make an impact on the society. A writer is someone who has his or her voice being heard, vision being known in the society. A writer is someone who analyses the society, people and the world around him or her. Simply a writer is someone who pays attention to the utmost simple things happening around him or her. I believe the best things about being a writer is, you are going to live forever through your work, in your books, in the hearts of your readers, in your characters.

A good writer contributes to the survival of civilization. A ‘good writer’…that is what I want to become. A good writer who will contribute to the survival of the civilization, a good writer that will contribute to humanity and spread love, compassion and peace.
